When designing a conference room or multipurpose venue, it may seem safer to choose a projector with the highest possible brightness. However, the system integrator's task is to select equipment that meets the specific requirements of the space. If the screen is small to medium-sized, ambient lighting can be controlled, and installation space is limited, the Barco G50 range is worth considering. These projectors are among the smallest and lightest professional projection solutions in their category.
At Barco Innovation in Motion, we will demonstrate Barco G50 and I65 projectors and discuss which applications are best suited to each. G50 projectors can be permanently installed in meeting rooms, lecture halls, conference facilities, and smaller museum spaces. For projects requiring higher brightness, the Barco I65 models are worth considering, with both WUXGA and 4K UHD configurations available.
The G50 range includes three models: G50-W6, G50-W7, and G50-W8, delivering 6,400, 7,400, and 8,900 lumens respectively. All three feature a native WUXGA resolution (1920 × 1200 pixels) and support interchangeable lenses.
The projectors accept 4K input signals at up to 60 Hz but scale them down to their native WUXGA resolution. This means that 4K content can be displayed, although the level of detail on screen is limited by the projector's native resolution. If a project requires 4K UHD output resolution, a projector capable of delivering it will be necessary.
One of the key advantages of the G50 is its compact design. The projector chassis measures 486 × 376 × 181.2 mm, while the weight ranges from 11 to 13 kg without a lens, depending on the model. This makes installation easier on ceiling-mounted structures, in technical recesses, and in spaces with limited room for equipment.
Lens selection is particularly important in rooms with low ceilings, limited throw distances, or installations where the projector cannot be positioned directly in line with the centre of the screen. The G50 supports lenses with different throw ratios, including short-throw and long-throw options. Installation planning should account for screen size, throw distance, and the available optical lens shift range of the selected lens. If the projector is positioned close to the audience, cooling system noise should also be considered.
Meeting rooms and classrooms. For spaces of approximately 20–60 m², the G50-W6 with a light output of 6,400 lumens is worth considering. Depending on ambient lighting conditions and screen characteristics, the projector can be used with screens approximately 3.3–4 m wide.
In meeting rooms, presentation text, charts, and spreadsheets must remain clearly readable, even from the back of the room. At the same time, projector noise should not distract participants. Ambient lighting, screen size, and operating noise are therefore important considerations. According to Barco's specifications, the G50-W6 and G50-W7 have operating noise levels of 32–36 dB(A), while the G50-W8 operates at 34–38 dB(A), depending on the operating mode, at an ambient temperature of 25°C.
Conference rooms and corporate spaces. For spaces of approximately 40–100 m², the G50-W7 with a light output of 7,400 lumens is worth considering. During preliminary project planning, screen widths of approximately 4–4.9 m can serve as a reference, although the final screen size must be determined through projection calculations.
A hotel conference room may host a wide range of events, including business meetings, training sessions, and corporate presentations. System integrators need to consider not only image quality but also ease of operation for venue staff and access to equipment for maintenance without prolonged room downtime.
The G50's laser light source has a rated lifetime of up to 20,000 hours. Actual service life depends on operating modes and environmental conditions, while routine lamp replacement is not required.
Museums and exhibition spaces. In museums and temporary exhibitions, projectors may be installed overhead, inside technical recesses, or behind exhibition structures to keep equipment out of visitors' sight. Such installations require careful planning of the throw distance, lens selection, and maintenance access.
Exhibition lighting must also be considered. A small screen in a darkened gallery and a large projection surface under bright ambient lighting may require different G50 models, including the higher-brightness G50-W8 with a light output of 8,900 lumens.
The indicated room sizes and screen dimensions are approximate guidelines. Projector selection should take into account ambient lighting conditions, target screen brightness, projection surface characteristics, and the selected lens.
For installations involving larger screens, higher ambient light levels, or a requirement for 4K UHD resolution, Barco I65 projectors are worth considering. Depending on the model, they deliver 10,000, 12,500, or 15,000 lumens. Both WUXGA and 4K UHD configurations are available, while the extensive range of interchangeable ILD lenses allows installations to be adapted to different room layouts and projection requirements.
For example, the Barco I65-4K10, delivering 10,000 lumens, can be considered for conference rooms and lecture halls of approximately 100–250 m² where 4K UHD image detail is important. For larger spaces of around 250–550 m², where high brightness is a priority but 4K resolution is not essential, the I65-W16 with WUXGA resolution and a light output of 15,000 lumens may be a suitable alternative.
Choosing between G50 and I65 therefore depends not only on room size but also on brightness requirements, resolution, content type, and installation constraints. The indicated room size ranges are intended as preliminary selection guidelines and do not replace detailed projection system calculations.

We invite you to Barco Innovation in Motion, a demonstration event dedicated to professional projection solutions, taking place in Astana on 10 November 2026. Roman Dundukin will demonstrate Barco G50 and I65 projectors in action, while representatives from Barco will be available to answer technical questions and discuss projector selection for specific projects.
This is an opportunity to compare the projectors in person and receive expert advice directly from Barco and Sound Creations specialists. Bring your project briefs and floor plans to discuss brightness requirements, lens selection, equipment positioning, and image quality specifications.
Date: 10 November 2026 Time: 14:00–17:00 Venue: ERZO Business Centre, Main Conference Hall, 27 Askar Tokpanov Street, Astana, Kazakhstan
