Practical Control for Professional Stages: A Session Led by Two Lighting Experts

On January 26, a session dedicated to Control will take place as part of the author-led course “Light on Stage. From Idea to Realization”, led by Mark Stavtsev together with Anatoly Samosadny, Head of the Stage Technology Department at the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia. This practice-oriented session focuses on lighting control and networking for large-scale stages.

Anatoly will share hands-on operational experience in managing lighting and network systems in major venues: key considerations during design and setup, common pitfalls, and proven approaches to reliable real-world operation.

Mark will deliver an in-depth overview of DMX512 (addressing and signal formation), as well as Art-Net and sACN, comparing architectures, multicast behavior, prioritization, and the role of VLAN and IGMP Snooping in professional lighting networks.

The practical segment includes work in ETC EOS (patching, network configuration, Augment3D) and hands-on interaction with Ayrton fixtures, covering protocol integration, RDM, and system monitoring.

About the course

This session is part of a 12-month professional educational program offering a continuous learning path from lighting fundamentals to advanced integration with media, sound, synchronization systems, and future-oriented technologies. The course is delivered in Russian, combines online learning with live practical sessions, includes monthly webinars, and is free of charge.
