In October 2024, Ushuaïa Dubai Harbour Experience opened at Dubai Harbour as an open-air concert venue with a capacity of 18,000 people. The venue includes a dancefloor, seating areas, VIP zones and dedicated guest spaces. Its first major event was a performance by Calvin Harris. Concerts on this scale require sound infrastructure capable of providing consistent coverage across different audience areas and ensuring reliable equipment operation.
The venue's sound reinforcement system combines L-Acoustics loudspeakers, DiGiCo digital mixing consoles and Van Damme cabling solutions. Equipment from these three manufacturers supports audio signal processing, amplification and transmission throughout the large-scale concert venue.
Ushuaïa Dubai hosts performances by international electronic music artists. One such event featured Swiss duo Adriatique, for which a sound reinforcement system was configured using L-Acoustics K1, K2 and Kara II loudspeakers, supported by KS28 subwoofers in an ARC configuration.
Using several loudspeaker series enabled sound coverage to be designed around the venue's size and layout. LA12X amplified controllers provided amplification, while P1 processors handled signal processing and system management. According to published information, the system delivered consistent sound coverage at a sound pressure level of 110 dB.
A DiGiCo SD12 digital mixing console was used for Adriatique's performance. The console managed and mixed the audio signals feeding the sound reinforcement system. Combined with L-Acoustics processors and amplified controllers, this configuration separated the tasks of mixing, signal processing and sound reproduction.
The digital audio infrastructure was built around the AVB protocol using Luminex GigaCore 30i network switches. This architecture enables audio equipment to be connected within a managed network.
Van Damme cabling solutions also form part of Ushuaïa Dubai's technical infrastructure. The venue's sound system uses Black Series Tour Grade Multicore Speaker Cable and VDM PA-CONS connectors for connecting professional audio equipment.
Black Series Tour Grade Multicore is designed to carry amplified audio signals in professional loudspeaker systems. The cables feature copper conductors and a flexible outer jacket suitable for repeated use in live event environments. Their multicore construction combines several loudspeaker circuits within a single cable, simplifying connections between amplification equipment and loudspeakers.
Van Damme VDM PA-CONS components are used for these connections. The range includes multipin connectors originally developed for connecting L-Acoustics amplifiers and line arrays. Their design provides secure connections and strain relief to protect the cable against mechanical stress at the connection point.
"A cable should not introduce its own colouration into the sound; signal transmission should remain accurate," says Danila Khavtorin, Brand Manager for Van Damme, L-Acoustics and DiGiCo at Sound Creations.
Since opening, Ushuaïa Dubai has continued to host performances by international artists. The venue accommodates events with different stage, audio and visual configurations. For the technical team, this means maintaining reliable equipment operation and adapting connections to the requirements of each concert programme.
The Ushuaïa Dubai project demonstrates the importance of selecting sound system components as a complete solution. Loudspeakers, mixing equipment and cabling infrastructure perform different functions, but accurate signal transmission depends on the correct selection and connection of every component. This approach is relevant to concert venues, festival stages and sound reinforcement systems for large-scale events.
As Danila Khavtorin emphasises in the Sound Creations practical guide, selecting the right cable starts with one question: "What function does this line perform in the system?" The purpose of the connection, cable run length, electrical characteristics and operating conditions determine the cable requirements.
Professional Van Damme cabling solutions are available from the Sound Creations warehouse in Tashkent and are ready for dispatch. For stock availability, equipment selection and orders, please contact Danila Khavtorin: kda@sc-electronics.com.
