Find the Perfect Lens for Your Projector with the Barco Lens Calculator

Choosing the right lens for a specific installation can be a real challenge, especially when it comes to meeting particular space and image quality requirements.

To simplify this process, Barco has developed a user-friendly lens calculator that helps you quickly and accurately select the appropriate lens. Just choose your Barco projector and specify the necessary parameters, such as brightness level, aspect ratio, and distance to the screen. In just a few clicks, you'll receive a list of available lenses that are suitable for your installation.

START COUNFIGURING

Barco offers projection solutions for any project—whether it’s art installations, planetarium domes, flight simulators, or 3D visualizations. However, having the right lens for each of these projects is equally important! How do you choose the perfect lens for your application? You can use Barco's lens calculator, or you can explore some examples and scenarios to guide your decision.

Museums

Many museums, theme parks, and other entertainment venues rely on technology to transform their unique spaces into captivating experiences. However, the technology should always remain "invisible"! Infrastructure limitations may lead you to consider ultra-short throw solutions. By placing projectors higher and closer to the projection surface, you can avoid disrupting visitor flow and prevent situations where people walk in front of the projectors, casting shadows and detracting from the visual experience for others.

For museum installations, Barco’s F or G series projectors paired with the Barco UST lens are ideal because they:

• Deliver the best results for all your visitors,
• Integrate seamlessly into unique design concepts,
• Ensure clarity of details—even at close distances.

The main advantage of Barco UST lenses is their high flexibility. For example, the FLDX lens with a 90° tilt angle and a throw ratio of 0.38:1 stands out due to its excellent rotation capabilities with minimal light loss compared to other UST solutions. You can rotate the lens in various positions while maintaining significant shift without image distortion issues. UST lenses also guarantee a complete image when installed within the projector’s frame!

The FLDX UST lens is compatible with all our F series projectors, but we also offer ultra-short throw options for other projector models. For a complete list of compatible lenses, please refer to our projector page.

Simulation

During the day, we can rely on our visual perception to understand our surroundings, but at night, our perception becomes limited. Night vision devices can significantly enhance our external view by utilizing infrared light. Barco's FS400 simulation projectors are equipped with a built-in infrared LED source that activates night vision goggles, allowing the projector to simulate conditions of dawn, day, dusk, and night—both with and without goggles. However, not all lenses are suitable for such projections.

Barco's FLC lenses are optimized with a special coating for maximum transmission of infrared light, making them the ideal choice for night vision applications. These lenses provide:

• Best-in-class image contrast,
• Support for infrared light during night vision training,
• Resistance to shock and vibration on moving platforms.

For simulation installations, the Barco FS400-HR projectors paired with the Barco FLC lens lineup are perfect.

Another important feature of simulation projectors is their use on moving platforms. Barco FLC lenses are specifically designed to withstand dynamic loads and vibrations thanks to their advanced housing design. To ensure unparalleled performance on such platforms, some lenses can be secured in place using the included plastic bushings and screws. For absolute stability in any conditions, you can also utilize our lens support, which minimizes tolerances and provides extreme stability even in the most challenging dynamic situations.

Why Use a Lens Calculator?

A lens calculator is an indispensable tool for anyone working with projectors, whether you are a professional AV installer, a multimedia solutions designer, or even a home theater enthusiast. It offers several key benefits:

• Time Savings: Instead of manually searching for compatible lenses, you can obtain results in just a few clicks.

• Comprehensive Parameters: Simply select your projector, input the screen dimensions, and specify the distance to the screen. The calculator will then provide a list of suitable lenses.

• Up-to-Date Information: The calculator includes the latest models of Barco projectors, such as the G50, I600, and QDX series.

How Does It Work?

1. Select Your Projector: Choose your projector model from the list provided.
2. Input Parameters: Enter the screen dimensions and the distance from the projector to the screen.
3. Receive Results: The calculator will generate a list of lenses that are perfectly suited for your setup.

Who Can Benefit?

• AV Installers: Professionals involved in setting up audiovisual systems can quickly find the right lenses for various projects.
• Designers: Those creating multimedia installations can easily select equipment that aligns with their concepts.

Utilize the Barco lens calculator and discover how simple and convenient it is to find the perfect lens for your projector solution!
