Factors to Consider When Choosing Ayrton Lighting for the Stage

1

You are a lighting designer creating light installations for an outdoor concert venue or artistic lighting for a theater stage. Regardless of the setting, your primary goal is to create lighting that aligns with the theme of the performance, whether it’s a realistic retro play, a contemporary piece, a fantastical opera, a vibrant operetta, a dynamic rock concert, a ballet production, or a solo artist's concert with a focus on their face and silhouette.

Based on Ayrton's offerings, here are important considerations that will help lighting designers achieve the desired stage illumination.

Remember that lighting should be tailored to the specific scene. Ayrton’s product line, based on a matrix system, allows for easy selection of models suited to the dimensions of the performance space.

For stages where the lighting truss is positioned 5 meters away from the stage, consider using the Rivale Profile and Rivale Wash. For smaller venues, the Diablo, Zonda 3, and MiniPanel FX are excellent choices.

For medium-sized venues where the distance to the lighting object is less than 10 meters, choose the Ayrton Veloce Profile from the Ultimate series. This series has introduced a new Wash variant. Rivale Wash makes it ideal for lighting on medium-sized stages.

On larger stages, start with front lighting using models such as Ayrton 9 Series (Huracán and Domino), and then select additional lighting for specific scenes. If the overhead truss is positioned 8 meters above the stage and the distance lighting covers a radius of up to 25 meters, consider installing Ayrton 6 Series models like Ghibli, Eurus Profile, Khamsin, Bora, or Perseo.

Using Ayrton 9 Series for front lighting will ensure that the entire performance space is optimally illuminated for the audience.

When setting up lighting on stage, it’s crucial to select the appropriate angles for hanging fixtures. This will enhance the shapes and lines of the set design, create shadows, produce beams of light, deepen backgrounds, and fulfill other objectives of the lighting design project.

With their wide beam angle, powerful light output, and frosted diffusion filters, Bora fixtures are ideal for establishing base illumination on stage. For spot lighting, choose models like Khamsin; for overhead fixtures in open trusses, consider using multi-source options like Argo 6 FX and Argo 6 Wash.

Ayrton Cobra stage floodlights equipped with phosphor lasers will provide maximum intensity light output.

For supplementary lighting, construct a "totem" structure that can be easily reconfigured during intermissions. Mount lightweight and compact fixtures like Kyalami on this structure.

For backlighting, opt for multi-source fixtures such as Ayrton Zonda 9 FX and Magic Panel FX. When combined with LED screens, these can create desired lighting effects in specific areas of the stage.

When selecting lighting equipment for stage performances, it is essential to consider the specific requirements of the venue, the nature of the performance, and the desired aesthetic outcomes. Ayrton's diverse product line provides a range of options that cater to different stage sizes and lighting needs. By tailoring the lighting to specific scenes, choosing the right angles and techniques, and utilizing the appropriate fixtures for each aspect of the performance, lighting designers can create captivating atmospheres that enhance the audience's experience. Ultimately, effective lighting design not only illuminates the stage but also plays a crucial role in storytelling, setting the mood, and accentuating the artistry of the performers. With careful consideration and strategic selection of equipment, designers can achieve stunning visual results that resonate with both the performers and the audience alike.
