Barco powers immersive Chu Culture Aesthetic Theater “Peach Blossom Bamboo Sea Illusion”

Throughout the performance, innovative media art techniques - such as digital control device art, multi-layer shadow projection, and interactive lighting - add depth and captivating allure to the show. Notably, the seamless integration of patented technologies like water-moon digital control devices, naked-eye holography, and hidden water stage matrices, combines digital precision with and artistic expression, creating a synergy between culture and technology that achieves a “1+1>2” effect.

Selected as part of the “New Generation · New Scene in Hunan Cultural Tourism” initiative, this Chu-style bamboo theater has become a new landmark in Hunan’s cultural tourism.

Challenge

In the “Peach Blossom Bamboo Sea Illusion” immersive theater project, projectors were deployed in outdoor forest settings, where environmental conditions, particularly humidity, posed significant challenges. Humidity directly affects projector performance and lifespan, as electronic components and cooling systems within the projectors are highly sensitive to moisture. Dust and mold also test the projectors' sealed, dust-proof capabilities. While delivering high-quality visual effects, the team needed to ensure the stability and reliability of the projection equipment, minimizing the impact of environmental factors.

Solution

To tackle the challenges in the “Peach Blossom Bamboo Sea Illusion” project, Barco projectors use high-brightness, high-contrast, and highly accurate three-chip DLP technology to create an astonishing light and shadow environment. 

At the Canglang Theater, multiple Barco G100-W19 projectors illuminate the bamboo curtain walls with detailed, bright, and high-contrast images. Even in outdoor settings, the projections remain clear and vivid, creating lively scenes against the bamboo backdrop. Through vivid imagery, the theater presents the poetic beauty of Canglang and the romantic charm of Hunan culture.

In the Qushui Liushang Theater, several Barco G100-W16 projectors recreate Chu-style aesthetics and scenes of daily life, breaking traditional theater boundaries and expanding space through light and shadow. The Barco G100-W16’s wide color gamut and powerful color expression deliver more accurate and emotionally compelling visuals.

In the Bamboo Feast Theater, from the sky to the water, the entire scene resembles a giant landscape painting. The Barco G-series and UDX-series projectors seamlessly blend the real-life stage, mountain bamboo sea, water surface, and bamboo houses, immersing the audience in the enchanting beauty of Chu culture and nature.

The excellent sealing of Barco G-series and UDX-series projectors enables them to operate in environments with over 85% relative humidity, reducing the impact of weather conditions and ensuring high reliability and long lifespan. Additionally, their light-weight design and modular structure made the installation and debugging process more flexible and efficient. The projectors are also adaptable to extreme hot or cold temperatures, ensuring stable operation.

 

Results

Barco’s G-series and - UDX projectors have created a dreamlike spectacle of light and shadow in the “Peach Blossom Bamboo Sea Illusion” immersive Chu-style theater. The projections transform the bamboo sea into a magical world, offering an extraordinary visual feast that transcends reality and blends ancient romance and fantasy. The performance brings the figure of Qu Yuan, the eternally youthful romantic poet, to life, allowing audiences to engage with history.
